It means you’re an ambassador, a lover of design, a shining example. Without passionate designers, nothing in the industry would move forward. These designers shape and mold the world to reflect their view and help others see something in a different light. You may think of some high profile designers when I say this, but it starts with you.

Every day that you move a pixel, put a pencil to paper, even just talking to other designers, you’re shaping the design world in one way or another. Sometimes you may feel like a small fish in a large pond, but that doesn’t mean that your voice isn’t important.

With AIGA, you have the voice to speak about your passions and views to a community. This community is built with your help and support, whether minuscule or large. Without members, AIGA would be nothing. It’s with the sharing of knowledge and experience that we can continue to grow and foster a creative community that encourages one another to keep doing amazing things

Coming from a board member, I can say that I am continually impressed and inspired by the community at large. The Central PA is a small community, which means everyone generally knows each other or have at least heard of each other. This also means that all of us make a greater impact with the things we do on the community. I absolutely love meeting other designers and hearing their thoughts on design, life, and anything. That inspires me to keep going and improve myself and others around me. Hopefully I inspire others to do the same, and to pass it on to the rest of the community as well.

With this I encourage you to get involved in some capacity, whether joining the board, volunteering, or even just coming to events regularly. I like to think of this area as one big team trying to make design better for others and ourselves. Board nominations are currently like open until the 15th of June and you are free to nominate yourself or others for an open position. If you’re not looking for a board position but still want to volunteer, we we be glad to have you as well! With your help, we can make Central PA a greater place through design.
