Community Meeting Highlights, July 2013

It’s summer and we’re in full swing preparing for the upcoming school year and new programming. Our July meeting was hot with progress we’ve made on several fronts.

The board and volunteers briefly discussed the Student Portfolio Review—we’re hoping to nail down the location soon, which will determine the date. Stay tuned for a save-the-date announcement.

In Communications Committee news, we’ve soft launched the new website and are working with AIGA national to tidy up glitches for a hard launch that we’ll actively promote to members. We’re excited about the new member-centric features the iKit can offer and are eager to share its benefits with our membership. We’ve also created a social media strategy and guidelines document to facilitate more robust engagement with our members online.

In the programming department, we’ve created an initial Event Proposal AIGA Central PA that we’ll be using for all events. We wanted to create a system that would easily allow people to submit their event ideas to the board to make them a reality. The proposal form is relatively simple, and helps both the person interested in running an event and the board determine how we can best support the effort.

Speaking of events… we’re excited to announce a very special Coffee Talk event schedule for this fall. Kern and Burn: Conversations with Design Entrepreneurs is our chapter summer reading pick, and we’ll be getting together to talk about it Sept. 17 so get reading!

We’re also hosting ZURB Oct. 3 (shhh, we haven’t officially announced it—that’s the payoff of being part of our Community Meetings: you get to know our cool secrets first). The crew putting on that event has been blazing through preparations.

Last but not least, we’re  working on setting up another stellar Hand-Inked series (the third year of inky goodness), considering starting a brown-bag style series of lunch hour get-togethers, and  possibly hosting Good Fucking Design Advice.

If you’re interested in getting involved with any of our excellent committees/events, drop us a line and we’ll find the perfect place for you!
