Feature Friday: Pam Barby

PCAD students, alumni, faculty and community members know this week’s featured designer pretty well. An AIGA Central PA member since 2008, Pam Barby is currently the department chair and an assistant professor at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design.

How long have you been in the field?
30 years.

Where did you go to school/what for?
Kutztown University, BFA Communication Design

What important milestones do you credit to getting to where you are now?
My education & 30 years of experience.

Why Central PA?
Central PA has brought top-notch designers to the region and offers great networking opportunities.

What advice do you have for our members & community?
You can’t go wrong if you are a hard worker, enthusiastic, and willing to learn. Be yourself and keep it simple.

Why design?
The challenge of problem solving and creating never gets dull. Design can be so empowering and that is a very rewarding feeling.

Favorite part of the job?
As a professor… working with the students. As a designer… satisfying a client’s needs.

Why should someone be an AIGA member? How has it benefited you?
The networking opportunities are great. Committing to such a prestigious group demonstrates your passion and dedication to design.
